Healing Through Play: Childcan’s Therapy Program

The Sifton Family Foundation is proud to support Childcan’s Recreational Therapy Program, a new initiative that turns playtime into powerful moments of healing for families facing childhood cancer. Through creativity, connection, and joy, this program helps families build resilience together during one of life’s most difficult journeys.

Serving the same catchment area as Children’s Hospital at London Health Sciences Centre, Childcan supports families from Windsor-Essex to Kitchener-Waterloo, from Lake Erie to Grey-Bruce, and beyond.

Why Recreation Therapy Matters

Childhood cancer affects the entire family. Treatment schedules, hospital visits, and emotional stress can make it hard to find moments of joy. That’s where Recreational Therapy comes in.

This program uses play, creativity, and meaningful activities to promote wellness for children, parents, and siblings alike. Sessions aren’t about skill or performance — they’re about providing a safe space to connect, express emotions, and experience small but vital moments of fun together.

Best of all, the program is completely free of charge for families.

Making a Real Difference

Childcan’s programs, including Recreational Therapy, are supported entirely by donors who understand that childhood cancer is an experience no family can ever prepare for. Their generosity ensures that families can focus on what matters most: being together.

By investing in initiatives like the Recreational Therapy Program, supporters help transform difficult days into opportunities for healing, hope, and resilience.
